Psychiatric disorders are associated with leading causes of maternal mortality and morbidity and are commonly encountered by clinicians during the peripartum period. Understanding the prevalence of these illnesses and appropriately screening for them during the peripartum period can substantially increase care for illnesses that tend to be under identified and under treated. This presentation will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of common perinatal mood disorders. This will include prevention, non-pharmacological interventions and pharmacological interventions, including medications safe during pregnancy and lactation. The presentation will include information about prescribing medications for perinatal mood disorders by primary care providers and obstetricians, and appropriate referrals. Register Here.
