Assists people in a mental health crisis who are a danger to themselves or to another person.Operates a Crisis Intervention Team, made up of deputies with mental health training.Accepts requests to have a mental health sheriff’s deputy respond to individuals in immediate crisis.Links individuals with appropriate resources for ongoing assistance, if needed.May issue a peace officer emergency commitment (POEC) for involuntary commitment to a psychiatric facility.Deputies wear civilian clothes and drive unmarked vehicles.
