Operates a state psychiatric hospital providing short-term crisis stabilization and inpatient mental health services. Provides forensic competency restoration services; psychiatric services for adults, adolescents, and children; and specialty psychiatric services for older adults and individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability. Works to stabilize client such that client may return to the community to utilize outpatient support services offered by Local Mental Health Authorities. Does not provide long-term inpatient services. Patients typically stay several days to a few weeks. Operates a Family House, providing low-cost overnight accommodations for families of patients currently receiving services at Austin State Hospital.
