Using a Trauma-Informed Approach to Enhance Tobacco Cessation

February 18, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Early youth initiation and adult tobacco use are significantly associated with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and in fact, exposure to trauma in childhood and early adulthood can double an individual’s risk of lifetime smoking.

In the Trauma & Tobacco Workshop, National Council of Behavioral Health subject matter experts Taslim van Hattum, LCSW, MPH, senior director of Practice Improvement, and Karen Johnson, MSW, LCSW,consultant, Trauma-informed Services, will provide evidence-based guidance you can use to enhance your treatment approaches and increase clients’ successful attempts to quit tobacco.

This new virtual workshop will equip you with:

  • Tools to effectively deliver trauma-informed tobacco cessation services.
  • Neuro-biologically informed evidence-based treatment and resources.
  • Practical guidance for interventions.

You’ll leave with a greater understanding of how to deliver trauma-informed tobacco interventions for behavioral health populations, evidence-based solutions for addressing tobacco use in populations with trauma histories, and increased knowledge of science-informed treatment approaches and additional resources.
