Social Media Tips & Tricks: Engaging Youth in Substance Use Prevention

July 16, 2021 @ 1:30 pm

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions to the lives of youth: Early data from a national survey conducted in January 2021 of 600 youth, ages 13 – 18, found that 75% of youth respondents believe the pandemic will have a lasting effect on their generation’s mental health and more than half believe it will have a lasting impact on their generation’s use of substances. With funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Council is leading an initiative to assess the effects of the pandemic on substance use risks and drivers among youth ages 12- 18 to equip youth-serving providers and organizations with the tools and resources necessary to support effective prevention messaging. This webinar will highlight the importance of delivering such messages in places where youth are – the internet. Hear from the real experts, youth, about best practices and creative opportunities for how providers can engage young people on social media and the internet in substance use prevention.
