It is well documented that eating disorders affect the Latino population. However, assessments and evidence-based treatments have been developed and tested primarily with European Whites. Cultural and systemic barriers prevent Latinos/as from having access to specialized treatment, therefore contributing to health disparities. Taking into consideration the culture, context, and language is essential to provide culturally competent care.
